A New Phone for Grandma

A New Phone for Grandma

A New Phone for Grandma İngilizce B1

Lena lived in a small town with her grandmother, who was 72 years old. Her grandmother, Maria, loved gardening, baking cakes, and writing letters. But she didn’t use much technology. She still had an old mobile phone with buttons, and she used it only for calling.

One Saturday morning, Lena said, “Grandma, it’s time for a change. Let’s buy you a smartphone.”

Maria looked surprised. “Me? A smartphone? I don’t need one.”

“But Grandma,” Lena smiled, “you can send messages, take photos, and even video call me when I’m not home.”

They went to a shop in the town center. The man at the shop showed them different models. Maria chose a phone with a big screen and simple functions. It was perfect for beginners.

When they got home, Lena helped her set everything up. “This is WhatsApp,” Lena explained. “You can send messages and photos. And this is the camera. Just touch this button.”

Maria watched carefully. “It’s like magic,” she said and laughed. “Look, I took a photo of my cat!”

For the next few days, Maria practiced a lot. She sent Lena messages every morning: “Good morning, dear!” She also started using YouTube to find new cake recipes.

One afternoon, Lena came home from school and found her grandma sitting in the kitchen with a smile.

“Guess what,” Maria said. “I had a video call with Aunt Eva in Berlin!”

Lena was impressed. “Wow! That’s amazing, Grandma!”

Maria nodded proudly. “Technology is not so scary after all. It just needs a little time.”

A few weeks later, Maria joined a group for seniors who wanted to learn more about technology. They met once a week in the library and talked about apps, emails, and online safety.

Maria even taught another woman how to use Google Maps.

“I feel younger,” she told Lena. “I learn new things every day. And I feel more connected to the world.”

Lena hugged her. “I’m proud of you, Grandma. You’re a modern woman now!”

Maria laughed. “Well, I still prefer baking, but texting is fun too.”

From that day, Maria used her smartphone every day. She didn’t just call—she connected, explored, and shared.

Technology didn’t replace her old life. It added something new.
